The Defense Logistics Agency awarded IBM with a contract to combine the separate food management system currently used by each military service into a single solution across all services. Mr. Lerlop serves as main developer for WebSphere Portal and user management on the 60 million dollar project. He designs a user management solution that maintains the consistency of user information across all systems including WebSphere Portal, Horizon OneSource, and Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server. He is also in charge of installing, configuring and maintaining WebSphere Portal on various environments. Furthermore, as the project closely follows the IBM Rational Unified Process, he works with other team members to ensure his team has a standardized development environment.

Mr. Lerlop designed and developed portal components that delivered knowledge management functionalities for the portal users. He was also involved in the product life cycle activities including giving advice on functional designs, system testing, system deployment, content migration, and maintenance. The core component of the portal was knowledge management, but it also used other portal technologies such as real-time collaboration and single sign-on. His main responsibilities included managing development tasks for each release to meet project goals; developing custom Java iViews (portlets) using standard SAP Portals based technologies, implementing single sign-on components from the portal to multiple site, and performing system migrations and upgrade from Enterprise Portal version 5 to 6. He also integrated Adobe Document Services Server with the Portal allowing users to fill out, digitally sign, submit and edit forms all in one place. In addition, he worked with multiple Windows 2000 servers to create administrative scripts to automate the manipulation of Active Directory entries and Exchange mailboxes.

ODPAP asked IBM to upgrade its document management system from a paper-based system to a web-enabled centralized database server so the staff could complete, submit, review, revise and approve documents through a web browser. Mr. Lerlop developed a web-based graphical user interface that took user input and stored it in a remote database correctly. The application also allowed users with higher privileges to retrieve and review information submitted by other users. Mr. Lerlop created a secure user authentication system that prevented the application from Structure Query Language (SQL) injection attacks. He also developed an upload feature for users to upload documents into a file server. He prepared and provided documentation such as Entity-Relationship (ER), sequence, website flow diagrams, detailed programming documentation and version documents to another government contractor who provided application hosting services. He also facilitated the database and web application deployment.

Smeal College of Business, Web Application Developer

Mr. Lerlop worked on serveral major projects for Smeal College of Business. He helped the Editor-in-Chief of an academic journal called Interfaces web-enable the entire journal catalog from flat text files into a searchable online web application.

The University needed to implement a Windows-based supply chain simulation application as a web-based application to allow universal access across platforms. Mr. Lerlop reviewed initial application requirements and specifications and provided suitable adjustments. He designed a database schema, web-based graphical user interface, and implemented a backend, database-driven, server-side application containing rules and logics. He also tested the application under client supervision.

Mr. Lerlop developed a web-based merger and acquisition database backend to hold trading transactions and user information. He programmed a server-side application with different modules to increase reusability and designed a user-friendly graphical user interface to execute transactions efficiently.

Department of Chemistry, Windows Application Developer

Department of Chemistry needed to archive image sna. Mr. Lerlop developed a server application that ran at regular intervals to move images from one networked drive to another. The main challenge was to ensure that all images were migrated safely regardless of the reliability of the network connection and servers.
